VMworld Parties to follow

YES, I will be at VMworld SAN Francisco! And no, I am not coming as a disguised evangelist (yet, as this could still change). There is even more: I’m coming in one week early (august 19th). This means 2 more problems for you: I don’t ‘have’ to get up early for booth duty and my body will be fully ajusted to Pacific Time Zone by the time you arrive. Whilst everyone else is reading and writing the “sessions to follow” or “vendors to visit” I suppose it’s my time to write the PARTIES TO FOLLOW! I will be listing the

The horror of mobile connectivity abroad

It’s that point in time that I go through some administration and question some things. Am I still working efficiently? Can I optimise my activities? As you all know I tend to travel a lot. If you get frequent flyer status from scratch within 6 months, you’ve seen some flights/countries. From the start I created this page on my blog called ‘travelhelp‘. Everyone that starts travelling has these same experiences to go through as I have. So why not helping each other here? I will be re-using some of that information on mobility in this post. Do you have more tips

TEDxBrussels – live blog

Today I am joined by 2200 other TEDx followers. TEDx is an independent TED organization. Today we are together in one of the nicest venues in Belgium: BOZAR. Entering the room already gives you the energy you expect from a day like this. For the first time ever I’ll try to live blog the event. Let’s see how that turns out to work. 9:10 – Opening Choir: Brothers Kolacny and their 23 SCALA girls think we are “Fucking Special”. Very sober version of Creep by Radiohead. 9:20 – Steve Wozniak: when kids go to school for the first time they

I detest what you write …

“je déteste ce que vous écrivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer à écrire” – Voltaire “I detest what you write but I’d give my life for you to be able to keep on writing” A certain discussion on twitter a few weeks ago forced me into this post that maybe each “independent” blogger has at one point in time. It’s about BIAS.  For starters let us be clear: every blogger is biased through his experience. If you work/have worked for a vendor, you are biased by your experience at that vendor. If you are a reseller you

Hey Hey, I wanna be a Rockstar

Today I got this really short but AWESOME e-mail message: You have been added as a member of: Group: DELL TechCenter Rockstars Total members: 14 What happened previous to this message?  Maybe you’ve heard me saying this before but one of the best quotes that describes DELL and its workers is “DELL LISTENS”. And if someone listens, you feel appreciated and are more willing to listen and cooperate too. This is what happened/happens to me here.  I do allot of presales work on DELL Enterprise servers and storage and every time I have questions (and these can go very far) the DELL people act fast and

HP P4900 SSD Lefthand – Bloggers podcast

A few weeks ago HP launched their new kid on the ‘block’, the P4900. It is an SSD-only box in the P4000 (Lefthand) family. There are two models: 3.2TB (single node) and 6.4TB (dual node). A single node contains 8x400GB MLC SAS SSD’s. As we know SSD solutions still have a lots of open questions in the community. At the launch of a new product the vendor will always show you how good the product is. This is good because we know at that point how much more it can do for our environment. But knowing how much more you can do also has
